Integrated Foundation - Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) - Civil Engineering
University of Derby - Derby
What you will study
The BEng (Hons) Civil Engineering with Foundation Year provides a structured route into professional civil engineering practice, combining a supportive Foundation Year with an accredited honours degree. On completion of the Foundation Year, students progress to the BEng (Hons) Civil Engineering programme, which meets the academic requirements for registration as an Incorporated Engineer and places graduates on the pathway towards Chartered Engineer status.
The course offers the opportunity to undertake a year in industry, with placements secured across a range of organisations from global companies to SMEs, enabling theory to be translated into practice through real-life projects, case studies, site visits and field trips. Teaching is delivered by highly experienced civil engineering practitioners, and learning is supported by outstanding facilities at the new STEM Centre at Markeaton Street, including dedicated civil engineering laboratories.
The programme develops advanced knowledge of civil engineering theory, particularly in structures and infrastructure design, alongside a thorough understanding of technical design and management processes. Core design skills are introduced across structures, fluids, geology, soil mechanics, surveying and materials. Accredited by multiple professional bodies on behalf of the Engineering Council, including the Institution of Civil Engineers and the Institution of Structural Engineers, the degree fully satisfies the academic requirements for Incorporated Engineer registration and partially fulfils those required for Chartered Engineer status.
