Dual Degree - Bachelor of Arts - Criminal Justice - Policing Stream (Including College Diploma - Police Foundations) & Bachelor of Education - Intermediate/Senior (PEG)

Students will first complete their Bachelor of Arts - Criminal Justice before moving into the two years of their Bachelor of Education.

The School of Criminology and Criminal Justice at Nipissing examines the social, political, and economic factors that have played a part in shaping the criminal justice system from past to present. This flexible program is designed to give students a balanced combination of theory and practice. Through placements, projects, and research, they will have opportunities to work alongside criminal justice professionals.

As a graduate in the Policing stream, they will examine the criminal code, the young offenders system, and learn the skills and techniques needed for a successful career in policing. Students will complete courses at both Nipissing University and Canadore College, and graduate with a college diploma and a university degree in just four years! Ethical reasoning and community policing are also key concepts in this stream.

After completing their Bachelor of Arts - Criminal Justice, students will begin Nipissing University's Bachelor of Education (BEd) program, which was one of the first pre-service teacher education programs to be fully accredited by the Ontario College of Teachers.

The BEd program is part of the Schulich School of Education and meets the requirements of the Ontario College of Teachers for teacher certification (Certificate of Qualification). It is open to applicants presenting proof of graduation with an approved undergraduate degree from an accredited university. The program provided by the Schulich School of Education is rigorous and demands a high degree of commitment. To be successful, a graduate must display sensitivity to pupils, a sense of responsibility to the teaching profession, and a respect for knowledge.

Candidates may apply to enroll in one of three divisions in the program:

P/J -- Primary/Junior (Junior Kindergarten to Grade 6) J/I -- Junior/Intermediate (Grades 4 to 10) I/S -- Intermediate/Senior (Grades 7 to 12)

Upon successful completion of all six years, students graduate with both a Bachelor of Arts - Criminal Justice, a College Diploma, and a Bachelor of Education (BEd) degree.
