What you will study

This course is ideal for those who aspire to a career in financial management, accountancy or corporate treasury. The course has been developed in consultation with global finance professionals. Students will study topics covering financial accounting, modelling and reporting, and the theories of finance and investment, and their use in decision-making. The course includes a research project, in which they can study a chosen topic in depth.

This course is taught by research-active staff and provides cutting-edge knowledge regarding the latest developments in the accounting and finance sector. This course gives students entry into the CIMA Master's Gateway. Those who successfully complete the CIMA Gateway Exam, they will be granted exemptions that include subjects from the certificate level, operational and management level exams. The course also offers exemptions from the professional exams of the ACT. Students will gain practical experience, working on real-life cases and financial data platforms, such as Bloomberg, Fame and Datastream. Kingston Business School is one of only 5% of the world's business schools to be accredited by AACSB International.

The professional placement year takes place after the full-time year. It allows students to do a 12-month work placement as part of their course. The work placement is an assessed part of the course and is therefore covered by a Student Route visa. It is the responsibility of individual students to locate and secure a suitable placement opportunity; this will normally involve one placement which must be completed over a minimum period of 10 months and within a maximum of 12 months. The placement must be approved by the module leader prior to commencement to ensure its suitability.

This course can help lead to careers in financial services, corporate finance, treasury or banking sectors. Typical roles may include accountant, trader, financial analyst, investment banker, portfolio/fund manager and other finance positions. Graduates have gone on to work for KPMG, PwC, Deloitte, Bank of America Merrill Lynch, GE Healthcare, Shell Company, Baker Tilly, McLaren Automotive Ltd, Credit Suisse, AXA and Santander.
