Bachelor of Business Administration (Honours) - Accounting (PBACC) (Optional Co-op)

Sheridan College - Hazel McCallion - Mississauga

What you will study

At Sheridan, students will build a foundation of essential business learning in the first two years of study. In the final two years, specific accounting degree courses teach the advanced skills needed to become a CPA or work in accounting and finance.

Sheridan College's accounting professors combine years of industry experience, academic knowledge and the latest hands-on learning strategies to create an educational blueprint that keeps pace with the changing field. They use innovative teaching methods that let students master basic concepts independently, while prioritizing complex topics in class. It's higher thinking through hands-on guidance.

Today's work world has changed. Top employability skills now include creative and critical thinking, collaboration across networks, leading by influence, communication and entrepreneurship. Sheridan's small class sizes and experiential learning approach promote the development of these skills through constant interaction with professors and peers.

In the accounting program, students will have the benefit of completing a mandatory work term as part of the business degree. This provides valuable work experience and allows students to practice and finesse skills and concepts learned in class. Students may also participate in an optional co-op program to further boost their experience and résumé before graduation.

Sheridan's 120-credit-hour bachelor of accounting degree meets the Chartered Professional Accountants (CPA) requirement for entry into the CPA Professional Education Program (PEP).

If students graduate from Sheridan's BBA accounting program and meet all of the CPA's minimum grade requirements, they could qualify for exemption from the CPA Preparatory courses (PREP) and receive entry into the CPA PEP. In order to obtain a CPA designation, students must meet the CPA's entrance requirements and complete the CPA PEP. CPA designations are solely conferred by the CPA.

This program is recognized by the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) as an accredited program. When students graduate from this 4-year Honours Bachelor of Business Administration – Accounting degree at Sheridan, they will receive the following ACCA Qualification credits: • Business and Technology (BT) • Management Accounting (MA) • Financial Accounting (FA) • Corporate and Business Law (LW)

This program meets the educational prerequisite needed for entry to the Canadian Marketing Association's (CMA) Chartered Marketer program.

The Honours BBA programs were designed to ensure graduates acquire the ability to apply a range of business frameworks, critical employability and 21st century skills to better prepare them to meaningfully contribute and add value to the organizations and communities they serve. With this in mind students will complete 3 required courses: Becoming a Master Learner – an introductory course designed to provide students with the tools and strategies to help them succeed, Undergraduate Competency Development – designed to develop skill sets around the key Competencies required to achieve success in business and society and BBA Portfolio – create a career-ready showcase e-portfolio that chronicles a student's development of the BBA Undergrad Competencies.
