Master of Science - Child Nursing

Canterbury Christ Church University

What you will study

Students can study for an MSc in Child Nursing and begin their nursing careers in this exciting area of healthcare. The Master’s degree in Child Nursing at CCCU is designed for graduates from any field of academic study. Upon successful completion, they will be eligible to register with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) to become and practice as registered child nurses.

In this collaborative course, students will study alongside adult and mental health nursing students during their first semester. They will experience all three pathways during their first placement, providing them with the opportunity to switch pathways once they have gained a better understanding of the other nursing roles.

Students will be taught both nursing theory and practice through modules that cover topics ranging from nursing ethics to anatomy and physiology, as well as management and leadership in nursing.

Moreover, the program's collaboration with service users and professionals from practice ensures that the MSc Child Nursing course places service users at the center of all activities, enabling students to adopt a holistic and person-centered approach.

Student nursing placements are a key component of the MSc Child Nursing program at CCCU. Participants will work directly with children experiencing changes to their physical and mental health in primary, secondary, and tertiary care settings. These experiences will equip them with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary to become practitioners and leaders in nursing care.

When not on placement, students will receive instruction in CCCU's state-of-the-art facilities. The simulation suites will allow them to hone their practical and communication skills, promoting self-reflection and improvement in controlled settings as they develop their skills and knowledge for the workplace.
