Bachelor of Arts - History (Including Placement Year) (V103)

University of Essex - Colchester Campus

What you will study

The BA History allows students to explore challenging questions about the impact of political, social and cultural change on individuals, social groups and regions. From African-American slavery to Stalin’s Russia—from households in Essex to witchcraft in Germany—from the history of disease to revolutions in China, the Department urges students to explore the past in order to better understand the present. Students have the flexibility to choose from a wide range of optional modules about subjects close to home and further afield, including:

• The American Revolution • Mass immigration to Britain throughout history • The role of women in Early Modern England • Chinese history and its relations with the outside world • Witchcraft and witch-hunts in Europe and New England between the 15th and 18th centuries

Students are taught by award-winning academics from all over the world: their corridors are truly cosmopolitan. The Department also provides students with opportunities to explore local history and have close ties with the Essex Record Office, one of the best county record offices in the UK.
