Based on a multidisciplinary approach, this major will expose students to the breadth of agriculture. Students will take classes in agribusiness, agricultural mechanics, agriculture education, animal science, horticulture, and soil science. For elective courses, students will be able to choose electives across agricultural areas or may wish to focus on an area, such as those listed above.

According to “The Future of Food and Agriculture – Trends and Challenges” report by the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization in 2017 areas of needed expertise from future agricultural graduates include global trade and food policy, climate change, food losses and food waste, transboundary pests and disease, governance for food and nutrition security, and agricultural productivity and innovation. Thus, this major is a foundation to address the transdisciplinary opportunities and challenges of 21st century agriculture and food systems.
