Master of Science - Building Services Engineering (EEST025)
Coventry University (Part of Coventry University Group)
What you will study
The Building Services Engineering MSc, responds to the increasing demand for specialists who can design sustainable, low-energy buildings and contribute to meeting the UK’s 2050 net-zero greenhouse gas emissions target. The programme advances expertise in mechanical, electrical and lighting systems, as well as public health systems (MEP).
It also develops knowledge of digitised building systems modelling and simulation using the latest software, alongside skills in low-carbon building design, research, data analysis and net-zero building strategies.
The course offers access to modern learning facilities and industry-relevant software applications to support high-level professional development. Expert guest lectures from building services engineers provide insight into a range of work-based scenarios, helping to bridge the gap between theoretical understanding and practical application.
Students also share modules with learners from various professional disciplines, reflecting the collaborative and interdisciplinary nature of the contemporary construction industry.
On successful completion of the course, graduates will be able to apply comprehensive knowledge of mathematics, statistics, natural science and engineering principles to solve complex problems. They will be capable of formulating and analysing such problems by evaluating available data and using first principles to reach substantiated conclusions. They will also be able to select and apply appropriate computational and analytical techniques for modelling complex issues, while recognising the limitations of the methods employed.
Graduates will be equipped to identify and critically assess technical literature and other information sources to address complex challenges. They will be able to design original solutions that meet a combination of societal, user, business and customer needs, taking into account factors such as health and safety, diversity, inclusion, cultural and societal considerations, environmental impact, commercial contexts, risk, project management, quality requirements, and relevant codes of practice and industry standards.
Additionally, they will be able to evaluate the environmental and societal impact of proposed solutions across the full life cycle of a product or process, aiming to minimise negative effects. They will demonstrate detailed understanding in developing proposals, applying research methodologies, and undertaking independent technical investigations, alongside academic writing on specialised topics.
