Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT) - Main
Civil Engineering Technology is a 2-year diploma program or 2-and-a-half year co-op diploma program through which students will learn how to design and manage construction, infrastructure and research projects.
The curriculum has been developed with industry input to ensure the programs covers all of the theoretical and practical elements that are essential within the broad field of civil engineering. With the help of hands-on learning and supportive, experienced instruction, students will apply computer-aided design & drafting (CADD) systems to civil engineering problems in the areas of:
• structural design • urban services design • highway design • pavement design • geotechnical design • project management • applied research
Co-op After the first semester of the Civil Engineering Technology program, students will have the option to apply for its co-op component. If accepted into the co-op program, the student will work with a consulting engineering firm, civil engineering department or a building and infrastructure contracting firm. The scope of work may include planning, design, testing, inspection and supervision. 30 students will be selected for the Co-Op Educational Stream based on academic achievement and need for work experience before graduation. The total length of the co-op program stream is 2.5 years, which includes 63 weeks of academic training and two 24-week work placements. International Bachelor of Technology (BTech) Pathway International students looking to study in Canada can take advantage of a 4-year degree pathway that allows them to earn a technology diploma and a Bachelor of Technology in Management (BTech) degree from NAIT. This pathway also makes them eligible to apply for a Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP), enabling them to stay in Canada and work after graduation. Students will start with an in-demand technology diploma before continuing into the BTech degree program. Bachelor of Technology The BTech program builds upon students' technology diplomas, helping them develop skills in leadership, problem solving, business strategy, and risk management. The combination of their technology diploma and BTech degree will open up more employment and career opportunities in various industries and roles, such as project management, operations management, and sustainability management.
