Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT) - Main
The exciting energy sector has created a strong demand for well-trained professionals in the hydrocarbon/chemical processing and pipeline industries.
NAIT's Chemical Engineering Technology program readies graduates for employment in the oil and gas industry by providing the knowledge, skills and experience necessary for their success. This nationally accredited program focuses on hydrocarbon and chemical processing, upgrading of heavy oil and bitumen, and pulp and paper manufacturing. It also opens doors to further education should students desire to continue their professional development.
Hands-on, industry-relevant skills
In year one, students will develop foundational knowledge and skills around oil and gas processing techniques, safety and computer applications. They will also brush up and grow your math, physics, statistics and calculus abilities.
In the second year of the program students will complete a 5-day training program at the world-class Energy Safety Canada Oil and Gas Production facilities in Nisku. They will also develop a real-world understanding of process theory while optimizing and troubleshooting working process equipment.
Field placement
Between years 1 and 2, students will be assigned to a 3-week industry placement with a refinery, government agency or exploration and production (E&P), pipeline or oilfield service company.
International Bachelor of Technology (BTech) Pathway International students looking to study in Canada can take advantage of a 4-year degree pathway that allows them to earn a technology diploma and a Bachelor of Technology in Management (BTech) degree from NAIT. This pathway also makes them eligible to apply for a Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP), enabling them to stay in Canada and work after graduation. Students will start with an in-demand technology diploma before continuing into the BTech degree program. Bachelor of Technology The BTech program builds upon students' technology diplomas, helping them develop skills in leadership, problem solving, business strategy, and risk management. The combination of their technology diploma and BTech degree will open up more employment and career opportunities in various industries and roles, such as project management, operations management, and sustainability management.
