What you will study
Program Description For students that completed high school with good grades but don’t qualify for entry to an undergraduate degree, they could study an International Year One, which combines university preparation with degree 1st year. After completing this pathway option students qualify for progression to the 2nd year of an undergraduate degree at the University of Essex. This delivery option includes 2 terms of modules, and a 1 term internship. Students’ course length is determined mainly by their English language level (UKVI IELTS score). Students on all course lengths take a set of common or similar modules to gain a solid base of skills for university. If the course is longer than 2 terms, they’ll take additional modules designed to improve one or more of their English language level, academic skills, and basic knowledge of particular subjects. Bachelor of Arts (Honours) - Business Economics
The BA Business Economics provides students with the theoretical and practical skills they need to understand and implement economic decisions made by businesses, managers and financial specialists.
This course is a collaboration between the Department of Economics and Essex Business School, allowing students to gain an overview of economics that is relevant to business and introducing them to a wide range of skills within economics, management and organizations and finance.
Students explore a wide range of topics across both departments, including:
• Microeconomics and macroeconomics • Modern economics for the world of business • Ethics in business • Business strategy
The Department of Economics is top 5 in the UK for research, with over 90% of its research rated as “world-leading” or “internationally excellent” (REF 2014). Student education is inspired and informed by this pioneering research, so that they graduate with a strong training in economics.
This course is jointly taught by Essex Business School, ranked in the UK’s top 25 for research excellence (REF 2014). They champion responsible management and ethical business practices whilst giving students the tools for a successful career in business.
