Overview
Italian at University of Liverpool has a distinctive approach to help students become highly proficient in Italian and critically understand its history and culture: one that develops the ability of students to engage confidently with Italian language, history and culture inside and outside Italy, in the Italian peninsula as well as in the context in which students live and study. By learning about history, sociolinguistics, film and literature through the lens of Italian, students develop a crucial set of linguistic and cultural skills to navigate the transcultural processes of the of the world in which they live.
In the Ancient History programme students can combine a study of the social, political, and cultural history of Ancient Greece and Rome equally with another subject. Students will have the chance to study a wide range of periods and themes in social and cultural history. In Year One, students develop their knowledge of the main themes and events in Greek and Roman history, and the skills required to assess them. Year Three modules centre on key figures and themes reflecting the research interests of the Department. Students have the option of writing a dissertation on a research topic of their choice.
