Ravensbourne University London
What you will study
Integrated Foundation - Bachelor of Science (Honours) - Broadcast Engineering (P322) equipped students with the underlying professional skills and knowledge needed to succeed in a fast-paced broadcast environment. Whether live or within other workflows, graduates were able to work under pressure and deliver to exacting technical industry standards.
This course nurtured specialist technical experts who could service primetime and flagship entertainment, media, film, and effects, as well as exciting developmental areas such as virtual production. The evolving nature of technology meant that boundaries in traditional genres were blurring, but the need for technical excellence was greater than ever.
This course, key topics of their integrated foundation year would include core principles of media communication design, narrative construction and structure, symbolism, meaning, and interpretation, colour theory and aesthetic principles, character development and genre exploration, sequencing techniques and timing, editing, lighting, and sound design, mise-en-scène and visual composition techniques, proficiency in industry-standard software and applications (such as Photoshop, Lightroom, Premiere Pro, After Effects, and Audition), comprehensive understanding of the production process — encompassing pre-production, production, and post-production — as well as social, cultural, ethical, and technological considerations including AI, data privacy, representation, and inclusivity. In addition, students would gain experience using digital labs, photography studios, broadcasting, and multimedia facilities to support their creative and technical development.
