Program Description Whether in the studio, the classroom or around town, Cambridge is full of inspiration. Whether students are honing their talent or finding their passion, the prestigious Cambridge School of Art at ARU is the perfect place to explore and design. The Pathway of Art and Design targets the skills students will need in University to critically assess information, develop a design portfolio, and express themselves through visual language. Students will be introduced to practical art and design skills including developing skills of visual storytelling, image-making both in traditional and digital media, visual language and communication, formulating an independent creative response to a broad range of subject matter. For a hands-on degree, many classes are going to utilise project and portfolio based strategies to help students begin developing a portfolio and find areas of passion. As a photography student at ARU students will explore many areas of photographic practice including digital and analogue image-making, experimental crossovers, multimedia, self-publishing and exhibition. Take full advantage of specialist darkrooms, photographic studios, and digital post-production and printing suite. Students can also borrow specialist camera equipment through a dedicated loan service. All work will be supported by academic staff working at the forefront of photographic research and innovation and have years of professional experience. Students will be taught through individual tutorial and studio sessions, as well as in group lectures and workshops, with regular career development events throughout their study. Recent guest speakers have included Tom Hunter, Jane Hilton, Tim Flach, Hannah Starkey, Carole Evans, Alastair Levy, Mike Crawford and Lillian Wilkie.
