Bachelor of Arts (Honours) - English and Creative and Professional Writing

The BA (Hons) English and Creative and Professional Writing programme at Derby combines two disciplines, enhancing graduate employability and providing the opportunity to develop expertise in both subject areas. The course covers the art, craft, and processes of writing fiction and non-fiction, including writing for books, magazines, and digital content. It also provides an understanding of the contemporary publishing industry and develops the skills necessary to bring literary work to market.

Modules explore diverse topics, including the evolution of fantasy, the representation of crime, the legacy of Empire, cultural politics, existentialist writing, classical myth, and the 19th-century realist novel. Students engage with literature from across the globe, studied in the context of perspective-altering theories concerning identity, desire, cultural politics, and the nature of reality.
