Queen's University

What you will study

The Bachelor of Education (Concurrent) prepares secondary school graduates to become educators and qualify for Ontario College of Teachers certification.

The program provides: • Two degrees at the same time: Bachelor’s in Arts and a Bachelor of Education.

• 5 years plus one term, with education courses and experiences in educational settings completed in years 1-2 with an in-school placement in year 3. Students complete an additional summer term in year 5. Graduates are out into the job market one year early. • For both Primary-Junior (JK-Grade 6) and Intermediate-Senior (Grades 7-12) (decided by students at the end of year 1). • Students will choose a concentration in Year 5, such as Teaching At-Risk Children or Adolescents, International Education, Exceptional Learners, Arts in Education, Drama in Society, Assessment and Evaluation, etc. They may instead choose to apply to a Program Track. The Program Tracks are Aboriginal Teacher Education, Artist in Community Education, and Outdoor Experiential Education.

Queen’s University's Music has earned a reputation across Canada for producing some of the best-prepared graduates: musicians who excel as scholars, composers, teachers and performers. Students in the Dan school of drama and Music obtain a solid education in western classical music from the ancient to the postmodern, while pursuing a wide variety of courses in applied study (performance), musicology/ethnomusicology, music education, and theory and composition. A highlight for music students is the university's Isabel Bader Centre for the Performing Arts with its world-renowned performance hall and the waterfront rehearsal room is an inspiring place to learn.

A major in Music is an intensive course of study in one discipline, with approximately half of the courses within the discipline with room for an optional minor in any other Arts and Science discipline.
