Master of Laws (LLM) - Mediation and Alternative Dispute Resolution

University of Law - Birmingham

What you will study

Program Description A Master of Laws (LLM) is a postgraduate degree designed to enhance academic legal knowledge, particularly focusing on specific areas of interest. The course has been specially designed for law and non-law graduates who want to gain a Master’s qualification in law while developing an in-depth knowledge of different mediation and arbitration techniques and practices.

The University of Law have designed the LLM in Mediation and Alternative Dispute Resolution to be a hands-on, practical course which will realistically simulate mediation and negotiation scenarios, allowing students to develop the skills required in practice. Utilising the insights of experienced professional tutors, students will have the chance to gain first-hand advice and support to fully understand the nuances and skills required to achieve favourable outcomes during dispute resolution. The award-linked module for this programme (Mediation and Alternative Dispute Resolution) will also offer the chance to gain in-depth knowledge of mediation and alternative dispute resolution skills; core skills that are quickly becoming more sought after and are an increasingly more important part of the legal landscape. In addition to a general induction to the LLM Mediation and Alternative Dispute Resolution programme, there is a two-week induction covering the Key Principles of the English Legal System. This is compulsory for non-law students, but also open to law students wanting a refresher in the fundamentals of the law of England and Wales. This would be useful for any student who has taken a considerable break from legal education.
