The BSc Biotechnology degree at the University of Chester offers an exciting opportunity to explore innovative solutions to some of the most pressing medical, veterinary, agricultural, and environmental challenges faced in the 21st century. The course emphasizes developing practical laboratory research skills within a biotechnological area of your choice, preparing you for careers in academia or industry.

The program comprises six research-focused modules designed to build core theoretical understanding and practical skills, while also illustrating current and emerging applications of biotechnology.
Students will then select a focused laboratory research project aligned with their interests, supervised by a faculty member—potentially in collaboration with industrial partners—allowing real-world problem solving and applied research experience. The course’s emphasis on applied biotechnology and problem-solving ensures that graduates acquire highly sought-after skills relevant to the biotech sector.
Additionally, students have the option to undertake a Project or Placement Year (for an additional cost), providing further industry exposure and practical experience to enhance employability and industry readiness.
