If students hold a bachelor’s degree or equivalent, but don’t meet the entry requirements for a master’s, a Pre-Master’s can help them gain a place on a postgraduate degree. For progression to the 1st year of a postgraduate degree at the University of Essex. Course length is determined mainly by students English language level (UKVI IELTS score).
Students on all course lengths take a set of common or similar modules to gain a solid base of skills for university. If their course is longer than 2 terms, students will take additional modules designed to improve one or more of their English language level, academic skills, and basic knowledge of particular subjects.
Master of Science - Electronic Engineering The University of Essex MSc Electronic Engineering enables students to acquire the essential knowledge, skills, competency, and critical awareness necessary for a rewarding career in the electronics industry. Essex prepares students for a career in analogue and digital circuit design, an area with a major skills shortage worldwide and particularly in the UK.
The content of the course is far-reaching and includes theory, practice, simulation and realization underpinned by Essex's 40 years of expertise in electronics and telecommunications. The course brings together Essex's teaching, research and industrial contacts to form a vocational offering with enhanced postgraduate employability. Students will be equipped with skills in the areas of: analogue and digital design, CAD and IC design, time and frequency domain analysis, fault analysis, embedded processing, and DSPs and fast prototyping.
All of students' acquired knowledge culminates in a project which sees the design, simulation, construction, testing and manufacture of a complex electronic system aimed at the industrial or consumer markets.

A number of careers are also available through local SMEs, geographically close to Essex, who account for a significant proportion of the workforce, both in the UK and on the continent. Recent graduates have gone on to work for a wide range of high-profile companies including: Electronic Data Systems, Pfizer Pharmaceuticals, Bank of Mexico, Visa International, Hyperknowledge, Hellenic Air Force, and ICSS (Beijing).
