Overview

The BA Business Management and Spanish combined honours degree at the University of Chester offers a distinctive integration of contemporary business studies with core Spanish language modules, establishing an excellent foundation for a successful career both in the UK and internationally.

Whether students begin with an A Level in Spanish or as beginners, in the first year they will explore fundamental concepts and functions of the modern business environment while simultaneously developing their Spanish language skills and engaging with vibrant Spanish-speaking societies and cultures from around the world.

Building on a solid foundation in business management, students will have opportunities to apply their knowledge, skills, and understanding within real-world industries and organisations. They will participate in entrepreneurship projects and practice their Spanish in authentic, practical contexts, preparing them for living, studying, or working abroad.

Students are encouraged to consider undertaking a language study placement abroad at the end of the second year. Popular options include intensive summer schools in Costa Rica or Spain, volunteering in Spanish schools, or earning a Cambridge CELTA qualification for teaching English to speakers of other languages.

The third year abroad provides an invaluable opportunity to enhance linguistic and intercultural skills while studying business at a partner university or undertaking a work placement in a Spanish-speaking country. For students unable to travel, a three-year route without the year abroad is also available.

In the final year, students will explore deeper aspects of Spanish in business, translation, and mediation, as well as examining the diverse cultural contexts of the language. On the business side, they will have opportunities to contribute to research and live projects, further developing their professional skills.

Students opting to undertake their major project in Spanish will be able to tailor their studies more closely to their career aspirations.

By choosing the BA Business Management and Spanish degree, students open themselves to a wide range of exciting possibilities and career pathways.
