What you will study
The Creative and Professional Writing BA program embraces the interconnected nature of writing forms in today’s world, as well as the challenges and opportunities presented by AI-generated content. The course aims to help students translate their love of writing into a career, equipping them with the skills necessary to develop their own creative work and cultivate a distinctive voice, while simultaneously preparing them for the wide range of employment opportunities that require enhanced communication skills.
This course is built on authentic learning and ensures that students continually engage with visiting professionals from various creative industries. They will gain expertise in evaluating, critiquing, and enhancing communications produced by others, as well as those generated by new technologies like AI.
In addition to traditional forms of creative writing, students will explore new opportunities such as Instagram poetry, flash fiction, extended series for streaming platforms, podcasts, and immersive performances. Their studies will also focus on pathways into the creative and communication industries through a practical understanding of publishing, production, and curation across both digital and offline platforms.
Professional Writing encompasses a wide range of writing styles and practices used across businesses for purposes such as effective communication, content production, persuasion, and promotion. This foundation underpins careers in areas such as journalism, advertising, marketing and communications, the production of educational guides and handbooks, public policy-making, and content creation.
