Genesee Community College - Batavia
GCC offer a well-equipped retail business management laboratory featuring a professionally lit display window for students to gain practical experience in visual merchandising and creative display techniques. Students will take field trips to industry locations in international and domestic locales. Some students engage in credit-bearing travels to Europe, a field trip to New York City, or an excursion to Toronto-evaluating and comparing international and domestic retailing, marketing, and entrepreneurial enterprises.
To make students' learning relevant to the working world, the program blends classroom preparation with a full-time internship, expanding their opportunities for employment after graduation.
Upon graduation, students must demonstrate knowledge of: • basic functions of business required in all profit or nonprofit environments to be able to create a business plan or feasibility study. • basic process and tools used in developing business plans supporting new business start-ups. • the impact of the modern and interdependent global marketplace on new business start-ups. • Use critical and creative thinking skills and analytical processes in the development and evaluation of a bona fide business plan or feasibility study. • Recognize and apply ethical, social and diversity best practices within the business environment
