What you will study

Program Description For students who've finished high school but don’t meet the entry requirements for university, a Foundation Certificate can help them gain entry to an undergraduate degree. After completing this pathway option students qualify for progression to the 1st year of an undergraduate degree at the University of Essex.

A student’s course length is determined mainly by their English language level (UKVI IELTS score). Students on all course lengths take a set of common or similar modules to gain a solid base of skills for university. Students taking a course longer than 2 terms, will take additional modules designed to improve one or more of their English language level, academic skills, and basic knowledge of particular subjects.

Bachelor of Arts (Honours) - Economics with Psychology

On BA Economics with Psychology students study the global economy, economic drivers behind human behavior and the human mind; developing parallel methods of analyzing decision making and cognition. The BA allows for further flexibility on optional modules, allowing students to tailor their degree to suit their interests. Through combining economics with psychology students gain a deepened knowledge as to why individuals are not always behaving in their own best interests. Understanding this and the frameworks of behavioral economics can help policymakers create environments that nudge people towards making wiser decisions and healthier lives.

Studying this course students will explore a wide variety of topics across economics and also have the opportunity to include some modules of psychology. Topics include:

• Macroeconomics • Behavioral economics • Market behavior • Personality and individual differences • Social psychology

Students’ education is inspired and informed by leading economics research, so that they graduate with a strong training in economics. The Department of Economics is ranked top 5 in the UK for research (REF 2014).

The Department of Psychology provides one of the most immersive experiences of studying the human mind in the UK. Students have the opportunity to work alongside researchers with their Research Experience Scheme (RES) and gain hands on experience in their dedicated psychology labs.
