What you will study

Program Description Foundation Studies Program (Fast Track) - Life Science (X0G:4) (0100809):

The Foundation Studies program is a direct academic pathway to first-year undergraduate degree study, or an equivalent. The program acts as a bridging course for international students who wish to study a university undergraduate degree course but who don’t yet meet academic requirements and/or have the English language skills for tertiary study.

To successfully complete the program, students must achieve a 50% pass in all units, including English.

Upon successful completion of the course, graduates can enter one of the University of Tasmania’s undergraduate degree courses.

Bachelor of Information and Communication Technology and Bachelor of Science - Computer Science (93H):

The double degree allows students to deepen their knowledge and expertise within two separate study areas. This means students can choose from University of Tasmania’s range of exciting, diverse courses and they can embark on a journey as unique as they are.

The University of Tasmania’s science degree provides students with a foundation of core skills in science, analysis, and rational thinking. They have options to focus their studies in one or more scientific disciplines and learn the methods to apply their skills and knowledge to the practical needs of industry, business, and government in both scientific and non-scientific roles.

The BICT is a specialist degree with both a theoretical and practical focus. It develops technological understanding and skills that are in high demand world-wide, plus builds project management and other business soft-skills that make students an ICT professional.

Computer science provides advanced skills for scientists to assist with data manipulation and graphical display, including using virtual and augmented reality technology.

Students get an opportunity to learn: • Programming Fundamentals will provide students with an overview of programming and its role in problem-solving, and strategies for designing solutions to programming problems with reference to the Java programming language. • Programming extends the students knowledge and experience. It introduces dynamic data structures, foundational collection abstract data types, and computational algorithms and techniques. Programming is undertaken in Java and C and topics include: references and pointers, memory management. • Virtual and Mixed Reality Technology will explore the exciting field of virtual reality, mixed reality and the advanced concepts and technologies for interfacing humans to complex machines. • Machine Learning and Applications provide students with the foundation knowledge and understanding of Machine Learning and its applications in various domains including computer vision, data analytics and text mining.
