College Diploma - Forestry Technician (FT) (Optional Co-op)

Students in Fleming College’s Forestry Technician program become part of Canada’s close-knit forest management community working to make a positive environmental impact. During this two-year program, students develop the skills needed to work effectively in natural resource management and conservation. They gain traditional forestry skills, including tree identification and forest measurement, as well as technical expertise in GIS, GPS, sawmilling, tree propagation, and chainsaw operation.

Delivered in person, the program combines theoretical instruction with extensive hands-on technical experience, including a paid co-op, numerous field excursions, and unique field camps. The curriculum focuses on managing forests in the Great Lakes–St. Lawrence and Boreal Forest regions to strengthen their resilience in response to changing climates and markets. Graduates are prepared to perform technical functions related to the creation, management, conservation, and restoration of sustainable forests in both public- and private-sector operations. They also develop specialized knowledge of adaptive practices that respond to environmental, social, and economic changes within the forestry industry.
