Bachelor of Arts (Honours) - English Language and Linguistics (Q310)

University of Birmingham - Edgbaston

What you will study

The BA English Language and Linguistics programme allows students to specialise in linguistics from year two onwards. The University of Birmingham has formulated a specific combination of modules that will help students to build detailed knowledge of skills in linguistic analysis, allowing them to pursue a range of specialist career options. Students wishing to take this course should still apply for the BA English Language (Q310), then from year two, students will be given the option to switch the make-up of their degree course.

Finding out how a language works and how societies communicate, combines a unique intellectual challenge with significant practical potential. This course draws on the University of Birmingham’s internationally renowned strength in applied linguistics, corpus linguistics, discourse analysis, grammar and stylistics. Students will also have the chance to use new resources, such as computer-held databases of linguistic data and they will be encouraged to embrace theoretical and technological advances in the study of language.
