Master of Arts - Producing Film and Television

Program Description This Masters is for students who want to complement their ideas and aspirations with the practical skills needed to make film and television programs. Whether students plan to join the production team of a film crew, shape a career as a researcher, associate producer or development executive, or even run their own independent production company, this course will give students the practical training and theoretical grounding to help them achieve their ambitions in the dynamic world of media production.

As a creative producer, graduates will learn how to develop their ideas as viable projects and sell them in a highly competitive marketplace. Thanks to expert tuition from professionals with experience from across industry, graduates will also become accomplished in the art of production management.

Working collaboratively across the year with other students in related subjects (directing, editing, sound design, screen writing and cinematography), students will plan and produce their own projects and learn how to work collaboratively within a creative environment. The final production project will serve as evidence of their abilities to develop, plan and manage a project of their choice, be that a short film, a business plan for a production company or a development plan for a TV series – the choice is up to the student. There is also an option to develop an alternative research-focused project if students prefer.

Students may have an undergraduate qualification in a related subject or may be able to show their suitability for this program of study through associated work-experience or evidence of and outputs from other related activities.
