What you will study

Program Description Foundation Studies Program (Standard) - Physical Science (X0F:5) (0100808):

The Foundation Studies program is a direct academic pathway to first-year undergraduate degree study, or an equivalent. The program acts as a bridging course for international students who wish to study a university undergraduate degree course but who don’t yet meet academic requirements and/or have the English language skills for tertiary study.

To successfully complete the program, students must achieve a 50% pass in all units, including English.

Upon successful completion of the course, graduates can enter one of the University of Tasmania’s undergraduate degree courses.

Bachelor of Marine and Antarctic Science with Honours (Specialisation) (K4C):

The initial specialisation to be offered is Physical Oceanography. It will provide students with training in advanced physical oceanography and mathematics, as well as training in scientific research principles and techniques such that graduates have the capacity to conduct physical oceanography research appropriately and with a reasonable degree of autonomy.

Within the context of the marine and Antarctic environments, graduates of the BMarAntSci (PhysOcean) (Hons) will: • Have a broad and coherent knowledge of the underlying principles and concepts of physical oceanography. • Have the cognitive skills to review, analyse, consolidate and synthesise their knowledge of physical oceanography. • Be able to communicate a clear and coherent exposition of knowledge and ideas relevant to physical oceanography. • Have gained experience of literature research methods and tools, data collection and analysis, and field and/or laboratory techniques relevant to physical oceanography. • Gained sufficient research and/or technical skills to allow them to complete a research study in physical oceanography. • Have the ability to plan and conduct a research project investigating a defined problem within the field of physical oceanography. • Be able to communicate research concepts and findings in a logical manner, in a variety of written and oral forms commonly used by professionals.
