What you will study
Integrated Foundation - Bachelor of Arts (Honours) - Fashion offers an innovative learning environment where future designers can explore both traditional craftsmanship and cutting-edge digital technologies in areas such as design development, pattern cutting and garment sampling. As digital innovation continues to reshape the fashion industry, students have the opportunity at Level 5 to specialise in the Digital Technology for Fashion pathway, which equips them with advanced skills for contemporary design, production and communication.
Through this pathway, students engage with sustainable and efficient design processes using technologies such as CLO 3D, focusing on practices including zero-waste design, digital pattern nesting, digital toiling and draping, manufacturing simulation, and textile placement. A key feature of the course is its emphasis on cross-disciplinary collaboration, enabling students to work with peers and professionals from fields such as animation, gaming and architecture. These collaborations encourage the creation of innovative projects that are both professionally executed and conceptually ambitious.
The course nurtures creatively confident and forward-thinking designer-practitioners with a strong personal design philosophy and a critical understanding of contemporary debates in fashion, including ethics, sustainability, diversity and inclusion. Students develop their creative individuality through a rigorous foundation in practical, technical and digital skills, which are further explored through a variety of projects, including live industry briefs and national and international competitions.
Overall, the programme aims to provide a holistic creative education that develops not only essential vocational skills but also important life skills such as resilience, self-efficacy and professional confidence. Alongside a critical examination of key issues shaping the global fashion industry, students gain specialist expertise that prepares them to pursue careers in womenswear, menswear, fashion textiles, or digital technology for fashion.
The course equips students with a broad range of practical and creative skills essential for the contemporary fashion industry. Students gain a foundation in fashion promotion, buying, and brand communication, while developing their ability to explore conceptualisation and creative direction in fashion design. The programme also strengthens visual communication through fashion illustration and life drawing techniques, alongside practical training in 3D draping and garment construction on the stand. Students experiment with fabric manipulation and digital textile printing, and develop skills in fashion styling and photography to effectively present their work. In addition, the course emphasises brand identity management and creative leadership, while introducing prototyping, atelier practices, and the use of digital design tools. Throughout the programme, students also learn to analyse industry trends and audience expectations, enabling them to create innovative and market-aware fashion outcomes.
