The Derby LLB offers a comprehensive and flexible undergraduate legal education designed to reflect the evolving legal profession and prepare graduates for immediate impact in their careers. Students may choose to pursue a broad-based LLB or specialise through pathways in Company and Commercial Law, International and Comparative Law, International Business Law, or Social and Public Policy. The degree meets the stringent criteria set by the Bar Standards Board and Solicitors Regulation Authority, providing a qualifying law degree that covers all foundations of legal knowledge and offers exemptions from the academic stage of professional training for aspiring solicitors or barristers. Specialist modules enhance competencies in entrepreneurship, creative thinking, problem-solving, teamwork, business acumen, and digital technology, further broadening career opportunities.

Derby Law School emphasises experiential learning to build employability and practical expertise, incorporating mooting competitions, mock trials, contract drafting, and bail applications. Students gain practical experience through the Community Legal Advice Service and work internships with local government bodies, charities, the NHS legal department, and the University of Derby Legal Department. Field trips and study visits provide exposure to the profession, including tours of local courts, visits to London’s Supreme Court and Houses of Parliament, and international experiences in The Hague and Dublin, allowing students to observe different legal systems and courts in action.
