Integrated Foundation - Bachelor of Science (Honours) - International Business Management
University of Derby - Derby
What you will study
Upon completion of the Foundation Year, students progress to the honours degree, spending the first year exploring all aspects of international business management to identify areas of interest and strength. From the second year, students may continue on a general International Business Management pathway or specialise in one of the following areas: BSc (Hons) International Business Management (Economics), BSc (Hons) International Business Management (Finance), BSc (Hons) International Business Management (Supply Chain and Logistics), or BSc (Hons) International Business Management (Analytics and Technology).
In the second year, there is an option to study abroad for a semester, gaining valuable experience of another culture and insight into how business operates internationally. The Financial Markets Lab provides access to extensive international business data and supports an in-depth understanding of global economies. This degree is accredited by both the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) and the Chartered Management Institute (CMI), offering advantages for future career progression.
The inclusion of a Foundation Year within the four-year programme provides a strong academic and professional head start. The foundation year helps students strengthen skills, knowledge, and confidence with extensive support from expert staff before advancing to the first stage of the honours degree. It is particularly beneficial for those considering a career change or seeking to develop understanding in new subject areas. Degrees with a foundation year are continuous, allowing progression without the need to reapply once the first year is successfully completed.
Globalisation has created significant career opportunities for individuals with an understanding of international and cross-cultural business. The BSc (Hons) International Business Management degree at Derby equips students to take full advantage of these opportunities, encouraging broad thinking and providing the chance to study a diverse range of subjects including business management, economics, accounting and finance, marketing, human resource management, logistics, enterprise, IT, and technology.
Recent global events such as Brexit, the COVID-19 pandemic, the climate crisis, and the 2008–2009 global economic and financial crisis have increased interest in these subjects, demonstrating the importance of developing a comprehensive understanding of economic and business challenges, including their causes, impacts, and potential solutions.
