What you will study
The BSc (Hons) Statistics and Data Analytics degree provides the knowledge and skills to master the statistical modelling techniques used by professional statisticians and data analytics specialists. On this undergraduate course, students will learn methods for data collection, analysis, interpretation, statistical estimation, statistical modelling and simulation. In addition to this, the University's Undergraduate Ambassadors Scheme will enable students, aspiring to be mathematics teachers, to gain classroom experience. The course is also accredited by the Institute of Mathematics and its Applications, the UK's chartered professional body for mathematicians. This course can be taken in sandwich mode, which means learners can take a year to work in industry between their second and final years of undergraduate study. Sandwich placements are relevant to their degree subject and are paid roles. Previous Mathematical Sciences have secured placement years at the Department for Work & Pensions, NHS England, NATS, Home Office, HMRC, Department of Health, GSK, Intel and Lloyds Banking Group. Students are also encouraged to take up Summer internships during the Summer holidays, though it is up to the student to find them. Career opportunities for this BSc (Hons) Statistics and Data Analytics course are varied. Most industries are always on the lookout for graduates with intellectual, mathematical and numerical skills that can be applied to a wide range of practical situations. Graduates may choose to work in a variety of fields such as data science, statistical modelling, operational research, research, internet technology, the pharmaceutical industry, accounting, banking, the Civil Service, teaching, logistics, consultancy, actuarial science, risk management and marketing.
