Advanced College Diploma - Medical Laboratory Technology (ML311)

The Medical Laboratory Technology Advanced Diploma program equips students with the knowledge and skills to become registered medical laboratory technologists. Through classroom learning, laboratory activities, and clinical placements, students gain essential skills to safely collect, analyze, and interpret patient specimens in a fast-paced environment. They develop organizational and technical skills for efficient, accurate work per quality assurance guidelines. In this high-demand health-care program, students learn to operate advanced equipment across five core disciplines: microbiology, clinical chemistry, transfusion medicine, histology, and hematology. The integration of simulation and clinical practicums throughout the curriculum helps learners gain proficiency for the CAMLPR field of practice competency assessments. Throughout the program, learners will engage in simulated and off-site clinical practicums starting in Year 2, providing valuable hands-on experience. These mandatory practicums allow students to integrate medical laboratory technologist skills in a supervised setting. Simulation activities at Humber campus are crucial for ensuring learners practice and gain proficiency in required competencies. Simulated and clinical practicums will occur in Semesters 3-7, each focusing on one of the five main disciplines in medical laboratory technology. Off-site practicums will be with agencies that have strong clinical ties with Humber.
