Centennial College - Progress
The Construction Project Management program at Centennial College focuses on developing both the managerial and technical knowledge required for residential, industrial, commercial, institutional, and infrastructure construction projects. The program is structured to address key aspects of construction processes while also incorporating engineering and project management principles relevant to the industry.
Designed with a modular approach, the program emphasizes construction management as its core focus, supported by general project management within a construction context. This integrated structure enables students to gain a well-rounded skill set that combines technical construction knowledge with project planning and execution capabilities, while also incorporating considerations related to environmental protection and sustainability.
A key feature of the program is its strong emphasis on sustainability, including global environmental protection, energy conservation, and international green building practices. The curriculum distinguishes itself by addressing both domestic and international approaches to sustainable construction, preparing students to work in a globally evolving industry.
The coursework covers a wide range of essential topics, including construction management information systems, project scheduling, procurement processes, legal documentation and contracts, cost estimation and analysis, and construction safety. Students are also introduced to international building codes and construction practices, providing a broader understanding of global standards.
In addition to classroom learning, students have the opportunity to participate in the annual Bid Competition sponsored by the Construction Institute of Canada, allowing them to apply their skills in a competitive, real-world scenario. Furthermore, the program’s courses are accredited by the Gold Seal Certification Program of the Canadian Construction Association, enabling graduates to earn training credits that, along with relevant industry experience, can be applied toward obtaining Gold Seal certification.
