The MA Film Production at Middlesex University develops creative vision while deepening technical expertise across all stages of filmmaking. The program combines workshops, collaborative projects, and critical analysis, allowing students to specialize in areas such as directing, producing, editing, cinematography, or sound recording and design. Students gain practical experience through live briefs, practice-based workshops, and placements, enhancing professional readiness and employability. The program explores emerging technologies, including AI and virtual production, and supports the development of a portfolio of professional-standard projects. One- and two-year modes are available, featuring embedded, credit-bearing work experience on real-world industry projects.
The course is delivered in MDX Studios’ state-of-the-art facilities, including a double-height film studio, sound recording foley and ADR studios, and suites for editing and color grading (DiVinci Resolve), with AVID Media Composer and Pro Tools certification. The Motion Capture studio includes a 25-camera OptiTrack system and Vanishing Point Viper for industry-level VFX and virtual production in a sound-proofed green-screen environment. The Kit Hub provides access to professional cameras, sound recording equipment, and VR headsets, supported by partnerships with Canon, Sony, and AVID to ensure students engage with the latest creative technologies.
MA programmes feature one- and two-year options with embedded, credit-bearing work placements on live industry projects.
