Master of Science - Forensic Science (Major Research Paper) (MS.FRSC.PROJ)

The first Canadian Masters of Science in Forensic Science has been designed for students to learn and implement best practices in forensic science. The M.Sc.F.S. program is a professional program that will allow students to: • further their understanding of current topics, methods and research in forensic science • gain hands-on experience with techniques used in various subdisciplines of forensic science • develop effective communication techniques to present technical scientific analysis to scientific, legal and non-scientific audiences • explore the relationship between forensic science research and professional practice

Students will develop critical thinking, leadership and communication skills and apply them all to a future in forensics. Graduates should prepare themselves for a position in an exciting field, where they can contribute to, and improve the legal system through an enhanced understanding of: forensic science applications, scientific data interpretation, and the communication of science in a legal context.

The program builds on Trent’s leadership in many areas of forensic science such as law, bloodstain pattern analysis and DNA techniques and applications, and on its B.Sc.F.S. offering. Through lectures, labs and a four-month placement program, students can be ready to apply their skill sets to the workforce in one year. There is no longer a need to leave the country to study forensic science at the graduate level. Students will be part of a new generation of experts that has learned by doing, and yet well-steeped in the scientific method and in research.
