Music and sound play a vital role in media, culture and storytelling. Integrated Foundation - Bachelor of Arts (Honours) - Music and Sound Production (W643) is designed for aspiring media composers, sound designers and audio producers looking to build industry-ready skills for the creative industries.

Students will develop specialisms in studio, live and location audio production, sound design, songwriting, composition and soundtrack creation for film, television, games and immersive media (VR/AR). The course is highly practical, exploring audio, sound arts and music production and how they connect with storytelling and the moving image.

With a strong focus on collaboration and project-based learning, students will work on live briefs alongside peers from other disciplines. Teaching is delivered by experienced academics and industry professionals, supported by masterclasses and guest speakers, preparing students for a seamless transition into a career in music and sound production.

In the foundation year, students will study core principles of media communication design, narrative construction and structure, symbolism, meaning, and interpretation, colour theory and aesthetic principles, character development and genre exploration, sequencing techniques and timing, editing, lighting, and sound design, mise-en-scène and visual composition techniques, proficiency in software and applications (Photoshop, Lightroom, Premiere Pro, After Effects, Audition), comprehensive understanding of the production process: Pre-production, Production, and Post-production, social, cultural, ethical, and technological considerations (AI, data privacy, representation, and inclusivity), utilisation of digital labs, photography studios, broadcasting, and multimedia facilities.
