Bachelor of Arts (Honours) - Creative Expressive Arts, Health, and Wellbeing
University of Derby - Derby
What you will study
The BA (Hons) Creative Expressive Arts, Health, and Wellbeing programme focuses on developing skills in the applied arts for roles as Arts for/in Health Practitioners. It equips students with professional and personal skills for careers across arts, health, social care, and educational settings, while providing practical experience through work-based learning and placements with community partner organisations.
The course enables the development of both specific and transferable skills relevant to a wide range of contexts where engaging with people through the arts is central, whether in professional employment or further study. Teaching is delivered by experienced practitioners and researchers, alongside community partners who provide real-world experience and support employability development. The programme allows students to apply skills in art, dance, drama, and music to positively impact the lives of others, integrating these practices with confidence.
Students have opportunities to develop and express their abilities in chosen art forms through specialist studio sessions, performances, and exhibition work. Exploration across all art forms empowers the application of creative practices as tools to promote physical and emotional wellbeing. The course examines how arts and creativity can be applied therapeutically in community, voluntary, health, educational, and corporate contexts, while considering different therapeutic principles, historical and cultural perspectives on health and illness, and the role of the arts in meeting personal and community needs.
