Cardiff Metropolitan University - Llandaff
The Master by Research (MRes) in Health Sciences is part of Cardiff Met’s unique University-wide MRes program within the UK HEI sector. It includes a taught phase (80 credits) and a research phase (100 credits) to guide candidates from developing research ideas to completing an independent project. The modular approach with set assessments offers clear progression milestones, while the 100-credit dissertation emphasizes independent research. These elements ensure the MRes is more research-intensive than typical taught master’s program (e.g., MSc, MA) and alleviates the uncertainty of less structured Level 7 awards like the MPhil. This course aims to provide a high quality and professionally relevant postgraduate program, with emphasis on both the theoretical knowledge and the practical. As well as completing a number of core modules, students will choose a specialist option to focus in studies . Throughout studies, students personal and professional understanding of Health Science will be enhanced through an academically coherent program of directed and self-directed learning. This will empower students to engage in and critically evaluate relevant contemporary biomedical themes, and to engage in research at postgraduate level, through the analysis and application of practical laboratory based activities.
