Overview
A Master of Philosophy is a postgraduate research degree that allows students to undertake detailed investigation into a specific academic subject. Students normally develop a research proposal, conduct independent research, critically evaluate existing literature and evidence, and produce a substantial research thesis. The programme provides an opportunity to develop advanced research, analytical, academic writing, and methodological skills. It can be suitable for graduates who want to specialise in a particular research area or prepare for further doctoral study. Depending on the subject area, graduates may progress into academic research, professional research roles, consultancy, specialist employment, education, policy-related work, or further study such as a Doctor of Philosophy.
