What you will study

This course offers a modern approach to a timeless subject, placing students within a dynamic community of writers and literary scholars and supporting them in shaping the future of literature and entertainment. The contemporary curriculum explores emerging writing forms such as video games, graphic novels, manga and social media. Through an innovative approach, students are encouraged to experiment with diverse formats, including escape room writing, point-and-click branching narratives, vlog-style documentaries and technology-led storytelling, while developing their own creative interests and ideas. The course provides significant creative freedom, allowing students to develop their unique writer’s voice. Assessment is entirely coursework-based, with no exams, and students can choose to work across traditional writing forms, new media, critical essays or portfolio-based projects. Students benefit from an innovative curriculum that supports a wide range of interests, from poetry and screenwriting to interactive media. They engage with topics such as character development, the impact of technology on storytelling, and how narratives are constructed across different media. Writing is explored beyond the page, extending into immersive and interactive experiences. Project-based learning is central to the course, enabling students to work on meaningful, real-world tasks. This approach helps develop key skills such as critical thinking, collaboration and communication. A placement year, taken between the second and final years, offers valuable industry experience. During this time, students can apply their learning in a professional setting, gain insight into potential career paths, build confidence, and develop networks. This extended experience supports the development of transferable skills and allows students to return to their final year with greater clarity and practical expertise.
