Program Description Animation at DMU is for students who have a love for drawing and want to see their artwork and characters come to life. At DMU they encourage students to be innovative, creative and push the boundaries of storytelling and artistic style. Students will gain a sound grounding as a generalist with the opportunity to develop more specialist skills from second year, as well as to develop new intellectual property and set new trends.

DMU's supportive and collaborative studio culture nurtures a friendly atmosphere that aims to encourage professional attitude and development. Teaching is delivered primarily through demonstration and practical workshop sessions, providing hands-on experience in drawing, script writing, idea generation, visual communication, pre-production, audio production and digital 2D animation practice.

Tutorials aim to provide personal feedback and are a framework for ensuring students see improvements in their work. Formative assessments include screenings of work, peer discussions and tutor led critique. Students will be briefed and supported to produce festival-ready animation, build an online presence and create an industry standard showreel.

Studying this course will prepare students for the industry whilst developing them as an independent film maker with their own distinct style and voice.

Supported by DMUworks. • Specialist facilities: DMU Animation has excellent specialist facilities including industry-standard animation, recording and sound studios, editing suites and dedicated graphics studios, computer suites for lectures and practical workshops, screening rooms for viewing films and presentations and exposure to the latest software to ensure students achieve the skills needed to enter the animation industry and festival circuit. • Students also benefit from three dedicated suites of Wacom Cintiq stations and one Animation studio equipped with audio software and hardware. • Enjoy an international experience with #DMUglobal: DMU offers all students the opportunity to take part in a #DMUglobal experience, which can enrich their studies and expand their cultural horizons. Previous #DMUglobal trips have included New York, Berlin, Hong Kong, China, Canada, Japan, South Africa, Russia and Italy to name a few.
