Bachelor of Arts (Honours) - English and Creative Writing (QW12)

University of West London (UWL)

What you will study

The BA (Hons) English and Creative Writing at the University of West London is designed to equip students with the technical abilities and confidence needed to pursue a career as a modern writer.

Throughout this joint honours degree, students will develop their cultural knowledge and communication skills while having the support and space to build their own creative specialism.

The course emphasises the use of creative writing techniques across broadcast, web and print media, while also developing critical and analytical skills that are transferable to a wide range of roles beyond the creative industries.

Through a blend of seminars, media debates and screenwriting workshops, students will develop a critically informed understanding of key works of English literature, a critical approach to reading and writing, the ability to structure complex arguments, an understanding of the creative writing process across traditional and digital media, and a portfolio that demonstrates their capabilities.

Students will also have the opportunity to undertake a work placement, gaining valuable experience in a professional setting and building industry contacts. Placement options can align with creative specialisms or literary interests, with many students choosing roles in organisations related to film, radio or publishing.
