Overview

The Undergraduate Foundation Program in Life Science program is designed to prepare international students, who have completed senior secondary education, for entry to a wide range of undergraduate studies at the University of Central Lancashire.

The Foundation portion of this program lasts one academic year (nine months). The year is divided into three terms of seven to eight teaching weeks and one examination week. On average, students will undertake 21 (and up to 25) hours of classroom-based study per week.

There are four academic pathways to choose from and candidates will study the pathway most suited to their chosen progression degree. Academic skills relevant to the specific subject area will be taught to fully prepare them for university study. The pathways are: Business, Economics, Finance and Management, Engineering and Physical Sciences, Humanities and Social Sciences and Life Sciences.

This degree programme offers students the opportunity to study the two related disciplines of physiology and pharmacology. In the physiological aspects of the course, students will gain a firm understanding of the range of processes happening in the various tissues and organs of the human body, how these are altered in response to external and internal stimuli, and how these go wrong in disease states.

The pharmacology aspects will focus on how drugs act on the human body and how they can be used as medications to restore normal physiology. The students will be provided with a comprehensive introduction to basic bioscience and develop essential laboratory and study skills.
