University of Cumbria - Lancaster Campus

What you will study

Grounded in the learning of the PGCE Secondary program, this Modern Foreign Language pathway allows students to develop the skills to teach in the secondary school setting, delivering engaging language lessons. This unique specialism gives students the opportunity to inspire a love of other cultures along with nurturing critical thinking and creative expression in the children they teach.

Students will learn through a blend of theory and hands-on experience, working within the National Curriculum Framework. They will explore the key concepts and themes of the PGCE curriculum, confidently devising and delivering engaging lessons to children and young people, aged 11-16 years old.

Over half the course will be spent working in the classroom on assessed placement, with school-based enrichment activities alongside students' university-based study. Students will take two placements across a variety of schools and settings, building a wealth of experience to help advance their future career.
