Texas State University - San Marcos
Their goal is to provide holistic, wellness-based, customized training in musical theatre performance to prepare students for the current professional market and develop artists who live with integrity in all aspects of their lives. The curriculum has a cutting-edge, innovative approach that was designed by industry professionals to support artists who will define the future of the art form.
Their approach to artist development goes against the traditional “one size fits all” model and concentrates instead on the specific needs of each individual student providing holistic, wellness-based, customized training to prepare each student for today’s professional market. Students build healthy, sustainable practices, with an emphasis placed on work life balance and integrity. As a community of artists, they are dedicated in daily practice to combat and dismantle racism, sexism, and heteronormative cisgender dominance in theater and in theater training.
Formalizing their goals in their syllabi, their classrooms, and their stages to breakdown and disrupt traditional theater training hierarchies; to hold space in creative collaboration in our classrooms and rehearsal spaces. Texas State University is a Hispanic Serving Institution, their musical theatre program strives to foster and continue to evolve an environment where social justice and anti-racism are key pillars of education. Their program is a conservatory style, four-year, sequence-based program with the benefits of a liberal arts education in a beautiful university setting.
