Overview

The Undergraduate Foundation Program in Humanities and Social Sciences is designed to prepare international students, who have completed senior secondary education, for entry to a wide range of undergraduate studies at the University of Central Lancashire.

The Foundation portion of this program lasts one academic year (nine months). The year is divided into three terms of seven to eight teaching weeks and one examination week. On average, students will undertake 21 (and up to 25) hours of classroom-based study per week.

There are four academic pathways to choose from and candidates will study the pathway most suited to their chosen progression degree. Academic skills relevant to the specific subject area will be taught to fully prepare them for university study. The pathways are: Business, Economics, Finance and Management, Engineering and Physical Sciences, Humanities and Social Sciences and Life Sciences.

This course draws upon education, psychology, sociology, social work and health. The students will gain a solid grounding for their future career working within the children and families workforce.

The students will examine the services, systems, policies and work practices that relate to children and young people in schools, with families, and in care settings.

The programme integrates theory, policy and professional practice. The students will conduct professional placements and work-based learning, ensuring they are well-prepared for the workplace.
