Overview

The BEng (Hons) Motorsport Engineering course is designed for aspiring engineers who want to stand out in the dynamic and competitive motorsport industry. With a focus on innovation and resourcefulness, the programme prepares students to work with leading teams and high-profile manufacturers in motorsport.

For those unsure about which specific engineering discipline to pursue, the first year provides a comprehensive foundation, covering all aspects of engineering. This enables students to develop multi-disciplinary skills and knowledge that are highly valued by employers. In the second year, students can choose to specialize in either BEng (Hons) Electrical and Electronic Engineering, BEng (Hons) Mechanical Engineering, or continue their studies in BEng (Hons) Motorsport Engineering.

The course is professionally accredited by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers on behalf of the Engineering Council to the Partial Chartered Engineer (Partial CEng) level. This means that, with further study (such as an accredited MSc programme), graduates can fulfill the academic requirements to become a fully Chartered Engineer.

Students will gain practical and technical skills through hands-on learning in state-of-the-art facilities, including a dedicated workshop space and computer labs equipped with the latest industry-standard technical software. These resources enable students to explore and study a wide range of vehicles and systems, gaining in-depth knowledge of areas such as advanced powertrain engineering, motorsport chassis design, and computational fluid dynamics.

Students also have the opportunity to enhance their learning through extracurricular activities, including participation in events like Formula Student and the Radical SR1 Cup Championship, offering real-world challenges in motorsport engineering.

For those who may not feel fully prepared to jump straight into the BEng (Hons) Motorsport Engineering programme, there is an option to undertake the course with a Foundation Year. This year provides additional academic support, helping students develop the confidence and skills needed for success in the full degree programme.

Through a combination of practical experience, expert teaching, and specialized facilities, this course offers students the ideal pathway to becoming highly skilled, adaptable, and industry-ready motorsport engineers.
