Overview
The Deakin College Foundation Program is equivalent to upper secondary school (Year 12) and university foundation programs. It aims to prepare students for further study in a Deakin College Diploma or for entry into the first year of a selected Deakin University bachelor degree.
The course consists of either a standard or extended track program. The standard track program consists of eight academic units: five core units and three elective units. The extended track program has an additional four units.
Various support services focusing on language, literacy and numeracy assistance are also available to help students in their studies. Each unit includes four hours of classes per week. Assessment for all units is continuous and includes tests, assignments and case study analysis. Most units have a final two-hour examination. To graduate from the Deakin College Foundation Program, students must complete and pass all eight units in the standard program or 12 units in the extended program.
Deakin College’s Diploma of Engineering is a broad introductory course that will prepare students with the skills and knowledge for a full spectrum of opportunities in the field. Students can choose to specialise in civil, electrical and electronics, environmental, mechanical or mechatronics engineering when they enter second year of their Deakin University bachelor degree.
Bachelor of Environmental Engineering (Honours) at Deakin University allows students to gain knowledge across environmental engineering industry areas including waste management, water engineering, catchment management and soil and water remediation. Students will develop solutions-led technical and professional skills to put themselves in high demand in this future-focused field.
Environmental engineers address global issues such as climate change, sustainability, waste disposal, water security, utility distribution, pollution and more. Graduates are highly sought after in government and private sectors to provide innovative solutions to these environmental challenges. They will be equipped to assess project impacts on air, water and soil, and to design strategies that minimise adverse effects.
This course equips them with the skills and knowledge to develop sustainable engineering solutions through project-oriented design-based learning and lab-based practical classes.
Students will gain in-depth knowledge across a range of environmental engineering disciplines related to environmental health, water, air and soil quality, water resource management and waste management. This is underpinned by the fundamentals of environmental engineering and the natural and physical sciences, including geography, chemistry, mathematics, environmental science, ecology and hydrology.
