Overview

Study BSc Business Economics with Placement Year and use economic theory and methods to investigate markets, business environments and industry, and put knowledge to practical use through a placement in the third year. Students will develop a strong understanding of quantitative techniques and the conceptual underpinnings of microeconomic and macroeconomic theory and how they can be applied to the analysis of business behaviour. They will cover topics including money and banking, industrial organization and business history.

In the first and second year, students will take many of the same core modules as the BSc Economics course to ensure they develop the skills and knowledge required to effectively study economics. Students will acquire specialist knowledge of business economics through core modules in the second and final year, which cover the topics of money and banking, industrial organization and business history.

During the first two years of this course, students will have additional timetabled support for pursuing and applying for internships and placements. Students will then have the opportunity to do a paid placement at a company or organization in the third year. The Department of Economics also has a specialist placement officer who can provide students with one-to-one support in their placement applications and preparing for a placement.
